Uganda’s Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has died four days after being set on fire by her boyfriend, the country’s Olympic chief said.

“We have learnt of the sad passing on of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei … following a vicious attack by her boyfriend,” Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) President Donald Rukare said in a post on X on Thursday.

The 33-year-old succumbed to the burns she suffered when her boyfriend poured petrol on her and set her ablaze in Kenya, making her the third female athlete to be killed in the country since October 2021.

“[Cheptegei] passed today morning after her organs failed,” Owen Menach, senior director of clinical services at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), told the Reuters news agency, adding that a full report regarding the circumstances of her death would be released on Thursday afternoon

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli, the Turkish club announced on Wednesday.

Galatasaray will pay €6 million ($6.65 million) net to the 25-year-old Nigeria international for the 2024-2025 season, the club said in a statement, with Napoli adding that the agreement lasts until the end of June.

Osimhen signed a contract extension with the Italian club last December through to 2026 with a reported release clause of €130 million.

Galatasaray have opened talks to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on loan, the Turkish Super Lig club announced on Monday, with the former Serie A top goal scorer landing in Istanbul early on Tuesday morning.

The 25-year-old Nigeria international penned a contract extension with the Italian club last December through 2026 with a reported release clause of €130 million ($143.91 million).

Osimhen’s 26 goals helped Napoli win the Scudetto two seasons ago, but it has turned sour since.

The transfer window in Turkey is open until Sept. 18, meaning Galatasaray, who are competing in this season’s revamped Europa League, still have time to complete the loan deal.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Bruno Labbadia as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

The NFF said in a statement on Tuesday morning that it has reached an agreement with the German tactician.

Mohammed Sanusi, NFF general secretary, said: “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect.”

Labbadia succeeds Finidi George who stepped down from the role in June — a few days after the NFF announced a plan to appoint a foreign technical adviser for the Super Eagles.

Manchester United have a full agreement with PSG for the signing of midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

West Ham have completed the signing of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United.

The right-back joins on a seven-year contract for an undisclosed fee, understood to be worth £15m.

Wan-Bissaka joined Man Utd in June 2019 from Crystal Palace and 190 appearances for the club in all competitions, winning the FA Cup and the EFL Cup at Old Trafford.
